ROYAL COMMISSION ON THE ANCIENT AND HISTORICAL MONUMENTS OF SCOTLAND (RCAHMS): APPOINTMENT OF 3 COMMISSIONERS
RCAHMS is an innovative and lively public body which provides a vivid and fascinating picture of human influence on the ever-changing landscape of Scotland from earliest times to the present day. The work of RCAHMS, which it has undertaken for over 100 years, creates an ever growing resource of material relevant to the built environment of Scotland through its own survey and research, and by identifying and collecting material created by others. RCAHMS is funded by the Scottish Government with an annual budget of over £4.3 million. Commissioners are appointed by Her Majesty The Queen, on the recommendation of the First Minister.
Remuneration - The appointments are not remunerated but travel and subsistence expenses are met. Reasonable dependent carer expenses will also be reimbursed.
Length of Appointment - Appointments are for five years initially with the possibility of reappointment. The successful candidate will take up the role from November 2009.
Time Commitment - A time commitment in the region of 2 days a month, generally in Edinburgh, is required.
The Role Involves:
- attending and contributing to Commission meetings 4 times a year and, at least one of the 6 Programme Committees twice a year;
- contributing to the Commission’s corporate planning and policy determination process; and
- providing peer review of the Commission’s business.
The successful candidates will have skills or experience in the following:
- A significant understanding of the built heritage of Scotland in archaeology, architectural history, or historical geography.
- The ability to contribute to the overall policy development and strategic direction of RCAHMS.
- The ability to represent the interests of and to promote RCAHMS at national, regional and local level.
- At least one of the following: business/financial planning; management of archives; Information Technology; education/outreach activities; the use of Public Relations in organisational outreach.
