With such a variety of public bodies performing a range of functions, there is no single type of 'right person' for a Public Appointment. Boards need a variety of people with different skills and experience.
It does not matter if you have not worked in a public organisation before – what does matter is that you have a real desire to serve Scotland. Beyond that, you should bring good communication and questioning skills, together with enthusiasm, integrity and sound judgement.
Appointments are made based on the skills, knowledge and qualities that the particular board needs and nothing else. As long as you have the understanding and abilities to make public bodies work better for the people of Scotland, nothing should hold you back.
